Answer:

                The rms Velocity for H₂ is 1600 m/s.

Explanation:

Given:

rms velocity of O₂=400

mass of O₂(M) =16*2=32

mass of H₂ =1*2=2

rms velocity of H₂= x

Formula:

               rms \ Velocity =\sqrt{\frac{3RT}{M}}

rms velocity of O₂:

400=\sqrt{\frac{3RT}{M}} \........(i)

rms velocity of H₂:

x=\sqrt{\frac{3RT}{M}} \........(ii)

Divinding equation (i) and (ii)

\frac{400}{x}=\frac{\sqrt{\frac{3RT}{MO_{2}}}}{\sqrt{\frac{3RT}{MH_{2}}}}\\

\frac{400}{x}=\sqrt{\frac{3RT}{MO_{2}}*\frac{MH_{2}}{3RT}}\\\frac{400}{x}=\sqrt{\frac{MH_{2}}{MO_{2}}}\\400*\sqrt{\frac{MO_{2}}{MH_{2}}}=x\\x=400*\sqrt{\frac{32}{2}}\\x=400*\sqrt{16}\\x=400*\sqrt{4^2}\\x=400*4\\x=1600 m/s

hope you find it helpful   :)
