probability he/she reads a newspaper is 30%

Explanation:

Given:

30% people read English newspaper

20% people read Hindi newspaper

20% of people read both newspapers.

solution:

30% people read English newspaper = 30/100 = 3/10

20% people read Hindi newspaper = 20/100 = 2/10

20% people read both newspapersr = 20/100 = 2/10

The probability that he/she reads a newspaper:

n(A U B) = n(A) + n(B) - n(A ∩ B)

= 3/10 + 2/10 - 2/10

= 3/10

hence, probability that he/she reads a newspaper is 3/10,

i.e, 30%
