Answer:

Let the present age of Thenmozhi be “x” years and of Murali be “y” years old.

Ages at present:

Thenmozhi's age is 5 years more than that of Murali's age, so the eq. can be formed as,

x = y + 5 …… (i)

Ages 5 years ago:

The ratio of Thenmozhi's age to Murali's age was 3:2, so here the eq. becomes,

\frac{x-5}{y-5} = \frac{3}{2}

Substituting the value of x from (i),

\frac{y+5-5}{y-5} = \frac{3}{2}

\frac{y}{y-5} = \frac{3}{2}

2y = 3y – 15

y = 15

Substituting the value of y in (i),

x = y + 5 = 15 + 5 = 20

Thus, the present age of Thenmozhi is 20 years and Murali is 15 years old.
