At sea level the atmospheric pressure is 76 cm of Hg. If air pressure falls by 10 mm of HG per 120 m of ascent, what is the height of a hill where the barometer reads 70 cm Hg . State assumption made by you .

Answer:

Atmospheric pressure = 76cm of hg

It decreases 10mm per 120 m

So 10mm = 1cm

Now totally 6 cm is Reduced

So :

10mm = 1 cm

6cm = 6 × 100 = 60mm

It reduces 10mm per 120 m

So :

For 6cm it reduces = 120 × 6 = 720

So for 6cm per hg the metre of ascent is 720 metres

Answer:

In ascent it falls by

120 / 1 cm = 120 m per 1 cm of Hg

So at height of x it reads 70 cm.

76 - 70 = 6 cm difference of reading between sea level and at a particular height.

So 6 ×120 = 720 m would be its height.

Hope it helps!
