at the beginning of the narrative, ATTILA doesn't able to measure up their expectation because the immediate reason for buying Attila was the series of house breaking and thefts in the neighborhood., and the householder decided to put more trust in a dog than the police. but Attila was not that sort of dog. he was having a gentle and friendly behavior, received the flower thiefs, received stranger very gently, didn't bark at strangers/thiefs.but he ran before the thief because he didn't want to loose RANGA s company..
