Generally, when we eat,a tiny flap called epiglottis present near our wind pipe closes and prevents the food from entering the wind pipe. But if we eat in a hurry, then the flap gets less time to close due to which some of the food particles enter inside the wind pipe causing hindrance in the movement of air in the windpipe.
Hence,we feel like choking or get hiccups.

That is because there are two pipes in our body :food pipe and wind pipe
The wind pipe carries air from nostrils to our lungs and the food pipe carries food from the mouth to the stomach. The wind pipe runs adjacent to the food pipe in the body. However air and food share a common passage. Normally when we swallow food a flat piece of cartilage drops over the mouth of windpipe forming a bridge over which food passes and goes into the food pipe. Sometimes however when we eat too fast or laugh and talk while eating then a little of windpipe remains oped due to which food particles may enter the windpipe.
