At what depth below the surface of water will pressure be equal to twice the
atmosphere pressure [ latm = 10 Pa, g=10 m/s?) ?

The pressure will be same whether the mercury is used or water is use, there is only a difference in density of liquid and height of Fluid.

For mercury, height is 76cm.

∴pressure=hpg

=76×13.6×g

where 13.6g/cm

is the density of mercury.

Now, let the height of the water column be h m.

∴p=h×pg, where density of water is 1g/cm

2

.

∴h×1=76×13.6

⇒h=1033.6cm.

∴h=10.336m.

We get, h=10.336m.
