Let,

Principle = P
Rate of interest = R
Time period = T
Simple Interest = I

Now, As we know

i = \frac{p \times r \times t}{100}

Now, As given that Simple interest should be half of principle, Therefore

I = P/2

Therefore,

 \frac{p}{2} = \frac{p \times r \times t}{100}

As "P" cancels from both the side and the value of "T" is 5 years

 \frac{1}{2} = \frac{r \times t}{100}

 \frac{100}{2} = r \times 5

 \frac{100}{2 \times 5} = r

 \frac{100}{10} = r

r = 10\%
