atomic mass =protons + nuetrons then why it is sometimes in decimals?

arthy10122002: good question
arthy10122002: i think that mass of the protons and electrons will have decimal points.so mass number also have decimal point
vishal8753: protons and electrons cannot be divided more

due to the molecular weight of respective elements atomic weight appears in decimals

Because on earth for every element we have isotopes. Isotopes are the species which have same atomic number but different mass numbers. We make an average on that with reference to the abundance of the isotope. For example : hydrogen has three isotopes with mass number 1,2,3 respectively. The most abundant is hydrogen with mass number 1 nearly 99.54% and the other two are found in traces. So by taking the average we get it in decimals. The mass number of hydrogen is 1.0008

arthy10122002: give an example
nayani: please tell me which element does not have isotope
nayani: okay you are telling that elements like beryllium doesn't have naturally occurring isotopes
nayani: but they can be artificially made
nayani: every element has isotopes
vishal8753: but artificial aren't concerned
jahnavi9949: what happened nayani
nayani: no you're wrong. you can check in Google
vishal8753: I agree but artificials cannot be concerned
nayani: check in Google bro you will come to know then.
