Carbon - electronic configuration - K2L4
​Silicon - electronic configuration - K2L8M4

​Since Carbon has two shells and four valence electrons, it belongs to 2nd period and 14th group and Slicon has three shells and four valence electrons, it belongs to 3rdperiod and 14th group.

Therefore, Carbon and Silicon belongs to the 14th group.
