When we do a configuration of mg by subshell method its outermost is 3s2
Then its block is second - A
And period is third period
U can also verify it by modern periodic table.

Magnesium is a metal which is present in s block due to its electronic configuration. as electrons enters into s orbital , magnesium is placed in s block.It is present in 3rd period and 2A group. 2A group contains alkaline metals. atomic mass of magnesium is 24.
