Hi there,

It is defined as the number of atoms of elements present in a molecule.


Ex : H2SO4

There are totally 7 atoms of different elements.

2 of Hydrogen

1 of Sulphur

4 of Oxygen.

→ It has no relation to the number of electrons in a atom.



→ In this compounds can be divided into monoatomic, diatomic, triatomic etc.

Monoatomic like inert gases.

Diatomic like oxygen, hydrogen etc.

Triatomic like ozone, Carbon-dioxide etc.



→ Ex :- Oxygen has Atomicity = 2

Ozone has Atomicity = 3
