At Vedaranyam, the Salt law was broken by Rajagopalachari.

After the incident, police tightened the security at Vedaranyam to prevent the marchers from collecting salt.

As soon as the group of marchers arrived at Vedaranyam, Rajagopalachari called for more participants and declared to break the salt laws on 30 April, 1930.

The Vedaranyam March was modeled on the lines of Dandi March and led by Mahatma Gandhi on Indian western coast, a month before, it was held to protest the salt tax imposed by the British Raj in India.
