t all happened not in a day or two. The political circumstances that prevailed after the death of Sultan Mohammad Qutub Shaha led to the decline of the Empire.

After his death, his son Abdullah Qutub Shah came to the throne. His mother Hayat Bakshi Begum helped him in administration and assisted the advancement of learning. But, he was given to luxury and dissipation; and was incompetent. The government servants started enriching themselves. On the top of all this came the Mughal invasion.

In 1633 Ahmednagar disintegrated. Golconda and Bijapur kingdoms secure behind Nizamshahi fell to the Mughals. Abdullah Qutub Shah and Mohammad Adil Shah, both spineless, meekly surrendered. They had their coins bear the name Shah Jahan, the Mughal Emperor. They admitted to their courts the local representatives of Shah Jahan. The intrigues of Syed Mir Jumla, who was the finance minister, changed the conditions. He secured the help of the Delhi Emperor.
