Autobiography of a Cake.
PLEASE do not only eat the icing
and throw the rest away, for it is
very wasteful," I said to a little boy.
"I don't think it is, though, for
cakes are not very the
dear; besides,
servant made you," said the boy.
"Oh, but it took the servant a good
hall hour to make me, and, besides, I
contain lots of other things." .
"Will you tell me about yourself?"
asked the hoy.
"Very well," I said. "There used to
be a bag of flour in a shop. One day
a servant bought it. She took it home,
and put it on a shelf. Some days
after she took it down, and got a lot
of other things ready. Then she took
-the flour, arid started to mix it up
with the other things in a basin. Then
she put It in an oven. After a while
she took it out, and put it on a plate.
When it was cold she mixed up the
icing, and spread it on. Then she cut
some. This is the very piece of cake
you are eating now."
"Now I see how much trouble it
causes any one, I shall eat it all,"
said the boy.
