- The Last Leaf by O Henry concerns Johnsy, a poor young woman who is critically ill with pneumonia. She claims that if the ivy vine drops all its leaves on the wall outside her window, she is going to die, too. However, Mr Behrman, her neighbour goes out in the storm to paint one as the last leaf comes down. It gives Johnsy hope. Mr Behrman, on the other hand, contracts and dies for pneumonia.
