Narrate an experience ➡
Well, I must say that I don't really have any such staggering achievement till date. I might be doing well compared to some of my batch mates from school and college. At the same time I am of course doing a lot worse than a lot more of my batcates from school or college.
If I must note down an achievement of mine that I am truly proud of, then I should narrate my experience of getting two offers of employment in my final year of engineering. I was enrolled in a private college that was part of a private group of colleges, affiliated with the state university. So placements were rarely for my institute alone, mist of the time we had mass recruiters and very few were for the core companies that would employ us in our respective field of study.
My batch had over 400 students of which there were 75 electrical engineering students and I was one of them. Mass recruiters mostly took the guys and girls from CSE or IT departments. We barely had any advantage as coding was not our speciality. I remember, the biggest mass recruiter that came to just our college alone was TCS and it took just 4 from our discipline. We were devastated but we had our hopes up as the campussing season had just begun. After 9 more rounds of appearing for quant, maybe going for gd and hopefully sitting for an interview, another 4 had been placed form our department including myself, in 2 different core companies. The campussing season was closing up and right then I discovered that the company I had cracked, was probably going to remove it's operations in India. Which meant that my offer might be rescinded or indefinitely postponed. My classmate and I who had jointly recieved the offers from said company, were devastaded. There were no companies coming in for placement and all was dark in our eyes. It was a really cruel twist of fate.
It was April of 2014 and our finals were a month away. At this time , we got news of one final recruiter Infosys, coming in for mass recruitment with a combined applicant strength of about 3000+ candidates. It was the last chance for any one who was not yet placed. I convinced my classmates to let me and the other unfortunate fellow student apply for this recuiter. And as luck would have it, we both got through. It was gruelling, it was suffocating and every day was spent on doubting myself, falling into despair, overcoming it by focusing on my priorities and then parcticing quant and interview questions. After apoearing for 11 recruitment drives, which took me on a tour all over Kolkata and it's outskirts, I got placed in 2 companies, one Core and one IT. That was one of the prodest moments of my life till date.
From day one of college life I had focused on graduating with at least one offer letter in hand. It was a tough but fullfilling journey and my greatest take-away was that my efforts did pay off eventually. Other than that, I was glad that I never gave up and did not succumb to despair.
Hope this helps!!
