1. a) Tuning fork— A tuning fork is a fork with two points. If it is beat in a pad, you will hear a drumming sound.
b) String instruments— Instruments like guitar and violin have strings in them. If you pull the strings you will hear a sound.

2. A sound wave is called a longitudinal wave because it is produced by compressions and rarefactions in the air. The air particles vibrate parallel to the direction of propagation.
