When a bus runs along a straight line path, the passengers also move with the same speed in a straight line but when the bus takes a turn the upper portion of the body of the passengers still continues to be in straight line motion but the lower portion tends to take a turn along with the bus and passengers tend to fall sideways.
This is due to the inertia of motion which states that :
For a body that is already in a state of motion, it will have a tendency to continue in exactly the same state of motion (with the same speed and the same direction) unless an external unbalanced force acts upon it to change that state of motion.
