(b) Sneha learnt in Chemistry period that on dissolving salt in distilled water it

conducts electricity, so the bulb glows. She then tried the experiment with dry

sodium chloride crystals. The bulb did not glow. Justify the observation. (1)​

  • NaCl is an ionic compound.
  • ionic compounds are good conductors of electricity in aqueous/molten/solution state.
  • its because when ionic compounds,say here NaCl dissolves in water,it dissociates into Na+ and Cl-
  • The presence of free ions helps in conduction of electricity.
