here square of the hypotenuse =72 sq cm

so, perpendicular^2+base^2=hypotenuse^2

x^2+x^2=72

=> 2x^2=72

=> x^2=72/2=36

=> x=√36=6

length of base=6cm

length of perpendicular=6cm

length of hypotenuse=√72cm=6√2 cm
