“His First Flight” by “Liam O' Flaherty”

b. In the short story “His First Flight” by “Liam O' Flaherty” a baby sea gull refuses to fly for the first time unlike his other siblings. Once coming of age, all the little seagulls with the guidance of their parents flew out of the ledge they had been nestling in.

But one particular seagull was too frightened to fly. The seagull's parents were protective but at the same time critical about his fright.

Like all other parents they were didactic and wanted their offspring to learn the traits of life at the earliest possible.

Through love and threat they tried to boost his courage and make him venture on his first flight.

c. The seagull was too frightened to fly. He felt that he would fall crashing down the steep ledge into the sea. He was sure his wings would not support him and he was petrified of the height just as some humans are especially who suffer from vertigo.

Every time he made an attempt to fly he felt he would suffer from a nasty fall. So he did not initially take the plunge.
