By about 32 weeks, the baby is usually lying with their head pointing downwards, ready for birth. This is known as cephalic presentation.

The baby is very mobile in the early weeks of gestation, however, at about 32 weeks, most baby's are in a head down position (Cephalic Presentation).
It is important to know the baby's position prior to birth and your midwife will normally assess this by feeling the baby through the tummy. Sometimes this can be quite difficult. A scan is performed to ensure that the baby is not in a Breech Position.
The scan will take about half an hour and will:
Confirm dates and Heart Beat
Show and hear baby's heart beat
Confirm baby's growth and estimate weight
Look at baby's anatomy again
Check for Position of baby
Check for Position of placenta
Examine amount of Fluid around the baby
Confirm gender if desired
