Badami, the second capital of the early chalukyas was formerly known as Vatapi.

*Vatapi also known as Badami is in Karnataka state , south western India. It is situated in an upland region just west of the Malprabha River .

NOTE - Founder of Chalukyas kingdom established a small kingdom with Badami as its capital.

*Pulakeshin II was the best known ruler of Chalukya dynasty as during his regime, the Chalukyas expanded their territories to the maximum that extended until the Deccan.

*The Chalukyas ruled present day Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Maharashtra from the 6th and the 12th centuries AD.
