Bakelite and polythene both are plastic but there is one major difference between them i.e. Bakelite is actually the first synthetic thermosetting plastic which means it is resistant to heat and also non-conductive to electricity, whereas plastic is not heat resistant nor non-conductive to electricity.
Both of them are organic polymers.

The main difference between Bakelite and Polythene is that :
Polythene is thermosetting polymer
Bakelite is a thermosetting polymer.
This means that Bakelite can't be moulded again and again for use while polythene can be moulded again and again for use.
