There are some steps for balancing the equation ,

the equation is H2SO4+C —› CO2+SO2+H2O

The total reaction how the oxidation number is using in this reaction is shown in the following picture ,

here the sulphur ion's valence from left hand side's H2SO4 is 6+ and in SO2 , sulphur's valence is 4+ so here sulphur had taken 2 electron and completed the reduction

and for carbon atom it had released 4 electrons and become C(4+) in CO2 and done the oxidation

So by using the proper oxidation number this equation is completely balanced.

the final equation would be 2H2SO4+C —› CO2+2SO2+2H2O
