Each oxygen atom then quickly combines with an oxygen molecule to form an ozone molecule:

O• + O2 → O3On exposing an oxygen molecule to ultraviolet radiations it break into nascent oxygen which is short-lived atom of oxygen which recombines with some other oxygen atom to form oxygen molecule or combines with an oxygen molecule to form an ozone molecule as it happens in the ozone layer.

Both reactions, the formation of ozone molecules and the dissociation of oxygen molecules into oxygen atom requires the presence of ultraviolet rays. This process occurs continuously in the ozone layer which traps the U-V rays and as a result the energy from the radiation is converted into heat.
