Gregor Mendel. He had proposed it through his First Law or the Law of Dominance that something was being stably passed down, unchanged, from a parent to a child over successive generations with the help of gametes.

He called them as ‘factors’. We also call these ‘factors’ as genes.

Genes are therefore the units of all types of inheritance.

They have the information that is needed to show a particular feature in any organism.
