carbon di oxide passed through lime water gives a milky solution, due to precipitation of an insouluble suspension of calcium carbonate : CaCo3(s)+H2O(l)+CO2(g) gives Ca(HCO3)2(aq). The milkeness disapears since calcium bicarbonate is water souluble.
