Barrier methods include the diaphragm, cervical cap, male condom, and female condom and spermicidal foam, sponges, and film. Unlike other methods of birth control, barrier methods are used only when you have sexual intercourse. Be sure to read the instructions before using a barrier method.

There are different methods to prevent fertilization. some of them are
1. Condoms- they act as mechanical barriers and prevent the sperm from fusing with the egg. it can also be used to prevent STD(Sexually Transmitted Diseases
2. Oral pills : these are pills that cause an hormonal imbalance and hence prevent reproduction .
- disadvantage: since they cause hormonal balance in the body they can lead to side effects
3. Loop or copper -t :this can be inserted in the female reproductive part to avoid the action of fertilization
- disadvantage : they can cause irritation .
