Bases dissolve in water to release OH - ions. If they do not dissolve to release OH- ions then they will not be called bases since that is a characteristic property of bases. But Alkalis are bases that dissolve in water. Then what is the difference between them? So do bases do not dissolve in water to release OH - ions? If both dissolve in water then what is the difference between them?
