Given chemical reaction

BaSO4 + 4C ----------> BaS + 4CO

This is an example of  redox reaction which involves both oxidation and reduction process.

Here Barium sulphate undergoes reduction where oxygen is lost.

BaSO4---> BaS

Carbon is oxidizing agent which gets oxidized to carbon monoxide .

4C--->4 CO

Note :

Oxidation reaction involves addition of Oxygen

Reduction reaction involves removal of oxygen

Given equation is:

BaSO4 + 4C ----------> BaS + 4CO.

In this type of reduction and oxidation both undergoes one after another.

So this kind of reaction is called as the redox reaction.

The oxidation reaction entails addition of oxygen.

And the reduction reaction involves removal of oxygen.
