Answer:
Beauty Lies In The Eyes Of The Beholder
Plato‘s
famous words ‘Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder’ appear to be a
fact and universal truth. The world around us is infinitely full of beautiful
objects and things. However, each individual finds beauty only in that thing
that he is obsessed about. For example a child finds beauty in toys and
chocolates; parents find beauty in their children; children find beauty in
their friends; teenagers find their girlfriends or boyfriends beautiful; poet
finds beauty in poetry; scientists in science, and so on. For each person the
meaning of beauty varies.
Now the question arises what is beautiful? Is there any
criterion to find out what actually beautiful is! Yes of course there are
criteria. The great poet John Keats has given us a yard stick to find out
beautiful things. He says:
“A thing of beauty is
a joy for ever:
Its loveliness increases; it will never
Pass into nothingness;
but still will keep
A bower quiet for us, and a sleep
Full of sweet dreams, and health, and quiet breathing.”
If we ponder over Keats’s words we will realize that
beautiful things are eternal; they live forever. They give joy, peace,
contentment and inspiration that will always keep on increasing. On the other
hand the things that are not beautiful, they are ephemeral and transitory. They
always give us pain, regrets, and anguish. So we must learn the art of looking
at beautiful things. We must not ever allow our moods to sway our discretion to
differentiate between the truly beautiful and the illusory beautiful.
