Answer: Kharif crop rice and rabi crop gram or pulses can be planted for crop rotation.

Explanation: In general crops planted for a long season reduce fertility of the soil. But leguminous crops replenish nitrogen. The leguminous plants have some swollen structures on the surface of their roots, called root nodules. The rhizobium bacteria residing in the root nodules convert atmospheric nitrogen into soluble nitrogenous compounds. This increases the fertility of soil. So to replenish the nitrogen loss in the soil, leguminous plants like gram or pulses should be planted after harvesting the paddy plants.

Explanation:

Kharif crops are grown between the month of June to September. Rice, soyabean, cotton are Kharif crops, whereas Rabi crops are grown between the month of October – March. Peas, wheat, gram etc are Rabi crops.

The Kharif crop soyabean and Rabi crop gram or peas are leguminous crops which can fix nitrogen due to the presence of Rhizobium bacteria in their root nodules.
