Complex sentence: An independent clause has the ability to act  as a sentence. It always makes a complete meaning.

A dependent clause cannot act to produce  independent meaning ,in spite of  it has a subject and a verb. Complex sentences are likeneighbours to compound sentences.

A simple sentence comprise of singular  clause. A compound sentence may consists  two or more independent clauses. Whereas a complex one  has at least a single  independent clause and will comprise at  least one dependent clause.
