It is absolutely true that mental satisfaction and work done honestly with single minded dedication are
more important than monetary gains or any other compensation. Satyajit Ray has beautifully portrayed that
a job well done is far more satisfying than the monetary gain we receive for
the job through the character of Patol Babu. Patol Babu left the shooting site
without collecting his payment because he was intensely satisfied with the
small role had had played with dedication. He felt, that his Guru and mentor,
Mr. Gogon Pakrashi would surely have felt pleased with his performance. This
thought was much more rewarding than the petty money he had to receive from
Naresh Dutt. So without bothering to be paid, he went away
with pure satisfaction in his heart.
