In olden days, when it was not proven that earth revolves around the sun, it was a belief that the sun, and other planets revolved around the earth. People were not very educated and also thought that the earth was flat and had 2 ends, from which one could fall.

Later , as the interest of people increased to know about various heavenly bodies, it was discovered that the earth revolved around a stationary heavenly body, sun.

Hope this helps.
