Behrman’s sacrifice indeed was supreme. He sacrificed his own life to save Johnsy who was many years younger than him. Saving someone’s life is a great service; but saving someone’s life at the cost of one’s own life is the greatest service. He was not only a kind man, but also a master painter. If he had not painted the ivy leaf, Johnsy would surely have died; while painting he took the risk of exposing himself to extreme cold and likely to be affected by pneumonia. However, he took the risk; and as feared, he caught the fatal disease and passed away. But by sacrificing his life, he gave a younger soul the opportunity to live her life to the fullest and make her dreams come true. Thus, we can say Behrman did a great service.

Answer:

Behrman's sacrifice was a supreme sacrifice because it saved a life of a young artist girl who was suffering from pneumonia without even thinking about his own life that was in danger situation. Behrman was an old artist. His master piece was the painting of an ivy leaf. He was a kind man and a great artist. He even had a dream to paint a masterpiece in his life . That dream of his was also succeeded when he drew the ivy leaf that looked so realistic which made Jhonsy get a will to live.
