Saving someone’s life is a great service; but saving someone’s life at the cost of one’s own life is the greatest service. He was not only a kind man, but also a master painter. If he had not painted the ivy leaf, Johnsy would surely have died; while painting he took the risk of exposing himself to extreme cold and likely to be affected by pneumonia. However, he took the risk; and as feared, he caught the fatal disease and passed away.
