Answer:

I don't think that the social media platforms should be held accountable for the misinformation that is going viral. It is up to the people to realise what is right and what is wrong and act accordingly. Instead the government should educate people so that they do not pay heed to such claims. It is not possible for the companies to assert whether a claim is true or false within hours. Rather they should formulate a policy so that if someone circulates content that is not authentic then that person would be banned from accessing that site for a definite period of time or some sort of action would be taken against that person.

I'm not wholly cynical about the current scenario but would like to add that Song claims which instigate violence or provoke people should be very quickly verified by the companies and they should take quick action against this. Claims about riots, sadist remarks, etc should come under the responsibility of the companies. All in all the people, the government and all of the social media platforms such as Facebook, WhatsApp, tik-tok should take some responsibility. Most importantly it is the people who should take responsibility of their actions and the consequences of the content that they are sharing .
