As NaHSO3 addition is reversible addition & due to steric factors, acetophenone & benzophenone doesn't react with it. The main steric factor arises due to "Benzene" ring.

Hey dear,
● Addition of sodium bisulphite to carbonyl compounds -
Aldehydes and methyl ketones form adducts with sodium bisulphite.
R-CHO + NaHSO3 --> R-C(OH)SO3Na
● Why benzophenone does not react with sodium bisulphite ?
- Sodium bisulphite reacts with only sterically non-hindered aldehydes due to its large size.
- In benzophenone, -C=O group is sterically hindered due to large size of benzene ring.
- Therefore, benzophenone does not react with sodium bisulphite.
Hope this helps you ...
