Beowulf is an Anglo-Saxon epic poem.
It is said to have been written sometime between 700 – 1000 AD. The poem is about Beowulf the epic hero and his battle against several monsters. One of these monsters is Grendel, the son of Cain. Grendel was cursed as a result of rivalry between Cain and Abel. He was so evil that he never thought of his evil acts as anything bad.

Answer:
Beowulf is an epic story rather than a poem which was popular as the longest and oldest English story.
It is set in the backdrop of Scandinavia and the full manuscript of the great story is still available in codex form as the original was damaged in a fire in the year 1731.
