let x be the boys and y be the girls
Acc. to question
x + y = 61 ....... (1)
Case 2
y = 2x - 5
on putting the value of y in equation 1 we get
x + 2x - 5 = 61
3x = 61 + 5
x = 66/3 = 22
On putting the value of x in equation 1 we get
22 + y = 61
y = 61 - 22
y = 39
Number of girls = 39
Number of boys = 22

Given that total number of members in club = 61.
B + G = 61 ----------- (1)
Given that number of girls is 5 less than 2 times the number of boys.
G = 2B - 5. --------- (2)
Substitute (2) in (1), we get
B + 2B - 5= 61
3B - 5 = 61
3B = 66
B = 22.
Therefore the number of boys = 22.
Now,
Substitute B in (1), we get
B + G = 61
22 + G = 61
G = 61 - 22
G = 39.
Therefore the number of girls = 39.
Hope this helps!
