The enzyme functions as a biological catalyst and has its optimum effectiveness:

  • Any physiological enzyme that works in human body has a graph of action vs environmental condition which increases with a logarithmic rate up to the optimum condition and then decreases with logarithmic rate as well.
  • This is the relationship between the enzyme action vs pH, temperature and many other factors affecting enzyme action.
  • Enzyme action is maximum at the optimum temperature which is around the body temperature i.e. 37°C.
  • Enzyme action decreases on both sides of this temperature.
