The distance-time graph for a girl on a cycle ride is shown in a graph.
a) How far did she travel?
b) How long did she take?
c) What was her average speed in km/h?
d) How many stops did she make?
e) How long did she top for altogether?
f)What was her average speed excluding stops?
g) How can you tell from the shape of the graph when she travelled fastest?Over which stage did this happen?

PLEASE HELP ME, THANKYOU...

1.she travelled 60km
2. 5hr
3. 12km/hr
4. 2 stops
5. 1.5 hr
6. 17.14 km /hr
7. During 1 to 2 pm

Vconson: Thanks! anyways how did you get 12km/hr and 1.5hr and 17,14km/hr? Please explain to me I need to study harder for this. hahaha....
miya10: Avg speed = total distance/total time
miya10: Calculate the time from B to C and D to E you will get the time the girl stopped for
Vconson: Oh.. okay thanks! for the help..

Concept:

Reading a displacement time graph.

Given:

A Displacement time graph of a cycle ride by a girl.

Find:

a) How far did she travel?

b) How long did she take?

c) Her average speed in km/h?

d) How many stops did she make?

e) How long did she top for altogether?

f) Her average speed ignoring the stops?

g) When did she travelled fastest?

Solution:

a) She travelled a total of 60km as its initial displacement is 0 and final is 60 Km according to the graph, So net displacement will be 60 Km.

b) She started at 1 pm and ended at 6 pm, so she cycled for 5 hours that day.

c) Average speed is usually defined as the Total distance divided by total time,

So, Average speed = total distance / total time

Average speed = 60 / 5 Km/hr

Average speed = 12 Km/hr

d) Slope of displacement time curve gives velocity, whenever the slope is 0 the velocity will be 0. Or we can say that the cyclist stops at that time. Slope becomes zero, 2 times in between the whole journey.

e) She stops for 0.5 hours between B to C and for 1 hour between D to E, So, she stops for total 1.5 hours.

f) Average speed = Total distance travelled / Total time excluding the stoppage

Total time Total time excluding the stoppage = 5 - 1.5 hours

Total time Total time excluding the stoppage = 3.5 hours

Average speed = 60 / 3.5 Km/hr

Average speed = 17.14 Km/hr

g) As slope is maximum from initial position to A, the velocity we also be maximum means she will travel fastest from 1 pm to 2 pm.

Hence, She travels 60 Km in 5 hours with average speed of 12 Km/hr. She stops for 2 times in between the journey for 1.5 hours and if we ignore the stoppage time then her average speed was 17.14 Km/hr. Her speed was maximum from 1 pm to 2 pm.
