Worried about which stream to choose after 10th so that you can pave the way to study abroad for your bachelors or masters, after your high school? Get a comprehensive idea from us and stop worrying.
The 10th grade results are out and they have created a buzz all around. You had really worked hard day in and day out and finally you achieved what you deserved best. The results define your goals and your clear-thinking attitude. So have you thought of your next steps? Which stream to choose after 10th ICSE/CBSE? I’ll pose the famous question – Science, Commerce or Arts? What’s your call?
Every stream has its own charm and value. Some people may stereotype, saying Science always has an upper hand on Commerce or Arts, whereas some others might defend the statement, saying Arts is for artists and deep thinkers and Commerce is for analytical brainers.
However, we’re not saying you have to start thinking for your bachelors or masters abroad, early on, from 11th grade. You can always plan for it, once you finish high school. But the idea is to take a proactive initiative and see where you want to go.
But before we begin, I would like to advise that never choose a course because your parents or guardian are forcing it down on you or your neighbour aunty’s son has suggested it since he thinks it’s a job-oriented subject or your friends are keen on selecting that subject so that you can all stick together for life – it never happens!
So, let’s start...
1. Career opportunities abroad if you choose Science after 10th:
If you have a passion and patience for Science, then you can go for it.
After 10th grade, Science is usually categorised into – pure and basic science. Pure Science includes Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics (i.e., PCM). Sometimes PCM includes Biology as well and is known as PCMB. And Basic Science includes Physics, Chemistry and Biology (i.e., PCB).
PCB – can lead to non-professional degrees like bachelors or masters in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Botany, Zoology, Biochemistry, Bioinformatics, Biotechnology, Microbiology, Molecular biology and Sociology. A masters (MSc) degree can lead to a PhD.
PCM/PCMB – can lead to professional degrees like bachelors (BE/B.Tech) or masters in Biotechnology, Bioinformatics, Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, B.Pharm, Aerospace Engineering and so on. A masters (ME/M.Tech) degree can lead to a PhD.
Some popular courses in Science available abroad:
If you nail down each subject further, you’ll find a lot of variations; say if you want to pursue masters in Mechanical Engineering from CQ University, Australia, you’ll find that they have two variations, that is, Graduate Certificate and Graduate Diploma in Asset and Maintenance Management.
If you want to study bachelors in Telecommunications at the Birmingham City University, you’ll find variations like Telecommunications and Networks Foundation and Broadcast and Communications Engineering (BEng Hons).
And if Computer Science is your forte, and if you want to study bachelors at the University of East London, you can choose from bachelors in Computer Game Development, Computer Game Design and Computing for Business BSc.

2. Career opportunities abroad if you choose Commerce after 10th:
You can choose either Commerce with Economics or Commerce with Business after your 10th grade.
If you choose Commerce with Business, you will study the following subjects: Accounts, Finance, Business & Maths and Commerce. And choosing this course might help you to study BBA, B.Com or BA in Economics, CFA, CA, ICWA and CFP abroad.
There are students who take Science only to realise later in life that they could have been better off being an Accountant or a Banker. This word 'could have been’ will exist as long as goals are not clear and students don’t recognise their true potentials.
