The answer to the question is 0.99

CALCULATION:

\beta is called the dc current gain for common -emitter mode.

\alpha is know as dC current gain for common base transistor.

The \beta of a transistor is given as 99.

Hence, \beta\ = 0.99

We are asked to calculate the value of \alpha

The relation between \beta\ and\ \alpha is written as -

                   \beta=\frac{\alpha} {1-\alpha}

                   \beta-\alpha \beta=\alpha

                   \beta=\beta \alpha+\alpha

                   \beta= \alpha(1+\beta)

                   \alpha=\frac{\beta}{1+\beta}

                         =\frac{99}{1+99}

                         =0.99

Hence, the value of alpha is 0.99.
