Rusting iron would occur faster in coastal regions as compared to a dry area.

This is so as in the coastal regions, the humidity increases in the air, hence increasing the water content per unit area of air.

Rusting of iron takes place in the presence of oxygen and water.

As both of these conditions are fulfilled, the process of rusting would get quicker.

Iron + Oxygen + Water -> Iron Oxide (rust)

Hope this helps.

Answer:

Rusting of iron occurs only if iron comes in contact with moist air. In coastal areas, air contains high percentage of moisture because of sea or ocean, while in deserts air is dry and hot. As the percentage of moisture in air is more in coastal area compared to desert, rusting becomes faster.
