Between two given positions, which is smaller: distance or displacement ?

Anonymous: let me make you understand
Anonymous: distance and displacement cant be distinguish like that to each other
Anonymous: see if a body move in a straight line for 4 mtrs then the displacement =distance=4 m
Anonymous: but if the body moves in 3m straight and then take left turn and move for 4 m the distance travelled is 7m whereas for displacement we have to consider the right angle traingle formed and by using phytogorus theorem we get displasement = 5m
Anonymous: in easy way distance is the total path travelled and displacement is the shortest distance from starting and the final point.
