The slave began in the 17th century. French merchants sailed from the ports of Bordeaux or Nantes to Africa and bought slaves from local chieftains.

It was also known as the triangular slave trade as it was conducted between France , Africa and America.

Slaves were brought from these countries to get a work force for the Tobacco , tea , indigo and coffee fields.

The colonies in the Caribbean - Martinique , Guandelope and San Dominigo were important suppliers of Tobacco , indigo , sugar and coffee .
