Finally , Mir Qasim - the nawav of Bengal made a secret pact with the Nawab of Oudh ( Awadh ) shuja - ud- daulah and the emperor Shah alam 2 to defeat the British . In 1764 the joint forces of Mir Qasim , Shuja - ud - Daulah and shah alam 2 met the British at Buxar . The combined force was defeated by the English , Sham alam 2 immediately made truce with the English and Mir Qasim fled to Delhi where he dies as a pauper
